Password protection adds an additional security layer when sharing files and folders through TERA.
This feature is particularly useful for confidential documents, business information, and files shared outside your organization.
Without additional restrictions, a person who receives a shareable link may be able to forward it to someone else.
A password provides another access requirement before the protected content can be opened.
However, a password does not replace careful sharing and permission management.
Sign in to your TERA account.
Locate the file or folder you want to share.
Open its sharing settings.
Choose the password-protection option.
Enter a strong password.
Save the sharing settings.
Copy the protected link and send it to your recipient.
Choose a password that:
Is difficult for others to guess.
Does not contain personal information.
Is not reused from your account login.
Contains a suitable combination of characters.
Avoid simple passwords such as 12345678 or common words.
Whenever practical, send the link and password through separate communication channels.
For example, you can email the link and communicate the password through a separate trusted messaging channel.
Ask the recipient to verify:
The password was entered correctly.
The link has not expired.
The link is still active.
Any additional access requirements have been satisfied.
A password-protected link should not be treated as permission to distribute sensitive information without considering who may receive the link or password.
